I am looking for any information on my great uncle Charlie, he managed to escape France on a polish vessel. He was in 69 Med regiment of the royal artillery according to the one document I have, I also have the picture attached, any information would be appreciated
Alex1876. 69 Med Regt RA was at Salerno as part of 5 AGRA - a grouping of Field and Medium Regiments, and sometimes Heavy Regiments, that were designed to beef up the fire of the Infantry or Armoured Divisions. These Divisions normally went into battle with three Field Regiments in support. AGRAs gave these Divisions even more fire support. Regards Frank
Hi Frank, thanks for the information I find it fascinating, he was my grans brother, I will pass this on to her and il try and see what else I can find out. Alex
Alex. Sorry, fat fingers. 69 Med Regt RA were part of 6 AGRA rather than 5 AGRA. Type ‘6th Army Group Royal Artillery’ into Google and you will get the full picture. Regards Frank
Tried searching for information on him via forces records online etc but it’s as if he didn’t exist would anyone have any idea why he isn’t listed anywhere and why there would be no record of him?
There is a record of him. It's his SERVICE RECORD, held in Glasgow. I suggest you send for that and if you have any trouble deciphering it there is always someone on this forum who can help you. Get a copy of military service records Vitellino
Hi, There is very very very little WW2 British soldiers (also Sailor & Airman etc) personal information available on the internet. The majority is not yet in the public domain - unlike WW1 era information. As Janet says the ONLY place to find FULLEST information about an individual soldier is by applying to UK MOD. FWR may promise much but deliver less than MOD. Steve
Alex. His Service Record will cover his time in the Army from initial enlistment, through training to posting. It will show what units he served in and where he went in the world. It will also show if he has been a naughty boy. Well worth getting as shown by Janet above but you will need to be patient. It takes an age to get the Service Record because it is a one man band in a little office in the Army Personnel Centre in Glasgow. Regards Frank
