    Hi all,
I've been looking more into the Army Education Corps side of things, and which records may or may not be useful regarding the Army Education Corps in Naples from September 1944 until the end of 1945.

ITALY ALLIED FORCE HEADQUARTERS1944 Jan., Feb., Sept.WO 170/28
    Army Educational Corps

As I mentioned above, I found this diary that seems to document the AEC from January-September 1944, and Trux said that the education establishment was minute, so this would seem to be the right one to look at. I can't, however, find another AEC diary that follows on from this one. So the crux of the question really is, where would that have been documented. Would it have gone into one of the many HQ documents that Andy posted above, or might they be documented in these that I also found in the 170 Italy Series on the National Archive:

There's an 'Education series' for '45 the contains these diaries:

WO 170/7448 Army School of Education 1945 Jan.-Dec.
    WO 170/7449 A.E.C. Pool 1945 Jan.- Dec.
WO 170/7450 Formation College 1945 July- Dec.

I'm assuming the A.E.C one might be relevant, as it's called A.E.C but what is the 'Pool' bit about?

This still doesn't account for the gap in time between Sept '44 and Jan '45 when these diaries start, so I wonder what happened in the interim.
Anyone have any further clues? My brain is spinning!
    Thanks as always

    Laura

If I was a gambling man I go with these, that said it's a big gamble that they will be the right ones and not only can WO 170 series files be thick I have a feeling these will be specifically thick too.

WO 170/3839 Army School of Education1944 Sept.- Dec.
    WO 170/7448 Army School of Education1945 Jan.-Dec.
WO 170/9136 Army School of Education1946 Jan.- Mar.

    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi all,
I thought I's add this onto here. This photo has been dug up, it's from the time spent in 93rd anti-tank regiment (I think, The beret and bobble are Argyll Sutherland and Highlanders I believe.) However I don't know when exactly it was taken, sometime after Summer 1943, so it might either be around the Bone area of North Africa, or after they'd gone into Italy.

The names listed on the back are "Smoke, Frank and Jack"

Jack being my grandfather (far right). As to the other two I have no other information, I know Frank was definitely in Bone at some point with Jack, but after that I have no idea!

Hope it's interesting or useful to someone.
