Like other correspondents, I have waited until my father-in-law has been dead a few years before getting interested! I have his papers and photographs from his time with 92/34 in North Africa and then he was with 65/34 in Italy. Is there any way that I can track his movements reasonably accurately? Some of his photos he has dated since the war and some of his letters gave an inkling of where he was at given times but I'd like to get a better handle on where he was and when.
Thanks - you can tell I'm a newbie! I found this site by accident and I think it may be very helpful. Once I've scanned the photos, they may be of interest to anyone else interested in the same artillery crowd. Just to add a bit of information, my wife's father was Captain Smart (2nd Lt while training in Felixstowe and Ollerton and then a Lt in North Africa before becoming a Troop Commander). Once he got to Italy, the army apparently decided he was too old so put him in charge of a driver training school based, we think, at Trani and turning out about 500 drivers at a time - so he's to blame for Italian drivers!
