I have just discovered a relative that was killed with the 8th Bn Worcs on May 29th, 1940. He is Corporal Arthur Percival Langfield (#5244193). I have seen him on the CWGC site, in the regimental history and on the Worc Regiment site. I also have a copy of the war diary logs for May 1940. In the logs, this is a reference to Appendix F which details the action on May 29th, 1940. Does anyone have this appendix that they can share? Dryan67
I have obtained a picture of Corporal Arthur Percival Langfield from my cousin. He is the soldier with the 'X' over his head. I have also found this quote about him in the action on May 29th, 1940 from a personal diary on the Worcestershire Regiment website. At about 1130 hrs., enemy pressure on "A" Company increased from the Wormhoudt direction, but more so still from the direction of Bergnes to the N.W., where an outpost section under Corporal Langfield reported a large number of tanks were massing little more than a mile away. "A" Company speeded up its withdrawal and reached "D" Company area without casualties. There it took up positions in the area of the Croenenspriet Cross-roads, leaving "D" Company on the right flank of the Battalion.
I have the appendix and a few others from that file that will be of interest. I'm just trying to find time at the mo to post the bits of interest-There's two many pages to post.
Drew5233: Thanks for taking a look. I am a patient man so take your time. I appreciate your help. Dryan67
