Hi, Need to further my research into my great uncles military history, he served with the 8th batt Royal Fusiliers, need to know delve into which Company he served in etc ,can anyone help with reference numbers for Kew please, any help appreciated Regards, Scott
Dear Scott: Your great uncle's battalion was in 167th Infantry Brigade of the 56th (London) Division, which fought in Tunisia and Italy. The battalion war diary would I think be in the Mediterranean series, WO 169 if memory serves. Contact Drew 5233 here, he is the Kew expert and may already have a scanned copy of the WD. As to which company he was in, I doubt that you will have much luck. Casualties in infantry units were high, and personnel were constantly shifted about from one company to another within a battalion.
