8th army - More info on Grandad's postings?

I'm trying to findout my Grandad's Unit from 1/12/41-27/4/46
on a card he has sent from Egypt to my Nana he has signed it as follows
3780469 gnr Fred Ogden
82nd D.A.A.D.G.R.A i'm not sure if there is something before the 8 and after what looks like a 2 if it's a d?
He was in the Kings Regiment 24/07/40-30/11/41.Also is this the Kings Regiment at Liverpool?
I have his Royal Artillery Badge .as his record of service is stamped R.A LIGHT A.A RECORDS.

 

Where can I get a full list of the postings of My Grandad?I have his service record with dates but wanted to know if there is something more indepth I could get.As My Mother and her sister are still alive I presume I have to get their permission and proof with certificates.

 

The service number is one allocated to the Kings (Liverpool) Regt.

Each regiment 'donated' a battalion to the Royal Artilley, from these were formed Anti-Aircraft Batteries and also Searchlight Batteries.

I checked the RA number for the Kings - it was the 38th, see here:

RA 1939-45 38 SL Rgt

What does his service history say - it will list abberviations like S/L , A/A , Bty.

The next step is a visit to Kew to get copies of the units War Diaries. These will give you a feel of what he was doing on a day to day basis.

This turned up in a thread a while back. 12th Kings were converted into a Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment.

First you need to tie down which unit he was in. Could you keep it all in one thread rather than starting several regarding your Grandads service.

Finally some photo's.Will add some more and the comments on the back.The one with Monty is when the General Von Thoma has been captured.These were odfficial photo's.The postcard was to my Nana from my Grandad in Egypt.
