Looking for any information on the above. The SAS Association have confirmed he served 1943-44 but have no other details. I did however find that his parent unit was the Royal Artillery and he was discharged as no long fit in June 1944. Really need things like DoB or DoD in order to apply for his full service record.
Could this be a match? Even if a RM Commando who died: SAUNDERS, Samuel John Albert | ͏ Why are you looking for him? What other information do you have? Members here can then help more.
No this is not a match to the RM Commando. My Saunders was Royal Artillery and from service number sequence joined it prior to WW2. Have no other information and reason I am looking for him is that I have his knife, one of the cut down 1903 bayonets usually associated with SBS, has his service number on it.
Thanks, I wonder if Saunders transferred to the RM / RN and so would be given a different service number. It is plausible as the knife has a link to the SBS. (Deleted as mistake made).
The record of his discharge in 1944 shows his RA service number so he would not have transferred to RM/RN. You cannot get service records without death certificate unless he was born over 116 years ago.
Nothing found on this database on ancestry UK, World War II Royal Artillery Tracer Cards, 1939-1948 Using his name & number two records apear on findmypast, but can't see any detail as I have index only access Travers
Thanks but I have print out from find my past only gives name service number of reason for being mustered out of service.
