This question came to me. Hope to hear. Fred

My grandfather was in 851 ENGR AVN BN and was to land on d-day but said that the ship he was on the ship's rudder got stuck and he never landed ashore until a few days later. I read in a book can't remember which one that perhaps a ship by the name of Patrick?? Was hit and sailed around in circles. I don't know if was this ship or another.
Any help would be appreciated along with any other info on his unit as it travelled across Europe.
His records along with many others were lost in the fire in St. Louis Missouri in 1975? Thanks in advance

Gawne's Spearheading D-Day has a little table detailing EAB arrivals up to D+12 - 851 EAB is not listed. 850 EAB were due to land on D+12; maybe that's a possibility.
Elements of two EABs were scheduled to land - and did - on D-Day: 819 on Utah and 834 on Omaha

Is there any source to find out more about the 851 ENGR AVN?
