    His Majesty the KING.has been graciously pleased to confer the Military Cross on the undermentioned Officers and Warrant Officers in recognition of their gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field:—
    Lt. Sereld John Armstrong, R.E.
    For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading a reconnaissance for the purpose of demolition into enemy trenches under a heavy fire. In spite of severe casualties, he worked under fire for half an hour, completing his task and ensuring the success of the raid by his energy, courage, and skilful leadership.
