I wonder if anyone can help ...

I am trying to track details of an air accident in Bushey, Herts during the late evening of Thursday 2nd September 1943. A Whitley bomber from 81 Operational Training Unit was on a Bullseye training flight, learning to evade searchlights, when it went into a dive and hit a tall oak tree and exploaded. In the fire that resulted, the crew of five all perished.

I would be interested to know the following:
    • the identity of the aircraft ,
    • the identity of the crew,
    • the home base of the aircraft and crew
    • any further information about the training mission and the accident.
Any information would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Michael
