Owen...wow...you have been busy, thanks for all your work, sent you a message, but again thanks so much Kieron
Owen just been having a closer look at these citations along with the photo album from Cpl Smiths of C squadron 7th RTR and it brings a real personal feel to it. You look at these pictures and look at the expression on these young mens faces they look battle hardened, some with bandages to their legs, arms and faces, put these together with the citations and pictures jump out at you! Thanks Owen really appreciate your research Cheers Kieron ps. Dug that picture out of that guy who won the MM....His name was Titch!....lol
A chap's emailed me with a heads-up regarding this rather good looking 4th & 7th RTR site: The History of the 4th and 7th Royal Tank Regiments - Home I believe it's his site, and have invited him to join us.
Hi Nick, I wouldn't worry too much about that B Company list. Its crossed through and was used as spare paper. Ref MIA/KIA there's a BEF Missing Men file for 1940 at Kew on the RAC in WO 361. Here's a list of casualties from CWGC that are directly linked to 7 RTR but I'm sure they'll be a few more that CWGC were just told RTR but not what actual regiment: 001 ADAMS CW 7885158 7TH 29/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 002 ARTHUR A 7887933 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 003 BARRAS E 7873246 7TH 29/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 004 FARRAR D 7883838 7TH 23/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 005 FORSTER HJ 7889634 7TH 26/05/1940 - - 02/06/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 006 GARRETT HFB 9731 7TH 23/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 007 GREEN H 7882097 7TH 25/05/1940 - - 02/06/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 008 HAMILTON E 550935 7TH 27/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 009 HEDDERWICK G 9043 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 010 HEYLAND HM 9297 CDG 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 011 HILTON H 7888677 7TH 29/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 012 KAUTER HJ 50227 ADJUTANT, 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 013 LEEKE WC 7883384 7TH 29/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 014 MASON J 7887188 7TH 27/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 015 MCGILLIVRAY HRW 882174 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 016 MILLS GW 7883807 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 017 NICHOLLS SG 7886702 7TH 24/01/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 018 NUGENT WKR 74711 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 019 O'NEILL C 3651986 7TH 29/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 020 REPPEN HJK 7879503 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 021 SLATER G 2560992 7TH 08/06/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 022 SMITH E 7881784 7TH 29/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 023 STAGG NL 7882223 7TH 10/05/1940 - - 23/06/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 024 TEMPLE SJ 7560229 7TH 21/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C. 025 TOMPKINS WH 7888950 7TH 27/05/1940 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT, R.A.C.
As far as I'm aware they aren't online so its a case of a visiting or getting someone to copy them for you. Drop me a PM if you want me to copy it for you. Cheers Andy
The awards might date back to Arras 1940 when the bulk of 4 and 7 RTR broke the German attack. Unfortunately the infantry support was late and gave the Germans a chance to rally. 4 & 7 were virtually wiped out in the process. Errm, I disagree with this statement. Please provide supporting evidence, for example, what were 4 and 7 RTR's orders, compared to what they actually did during the Arras counter-attack? Best, Steve.

Thanks for the PM Steve. I base my response on the briefings in the 70s and 80s at Arras by those who survived when I was part of 4RTR attending Arras battlefield visits. Furthermore this was also repeated by a historian (can't remember his name) who attended the big Arras function a few years ago. Although you could say this is hearsay I would expect officially organised RTR battlefield visits to make sure the veterans weren't pulling one.
