I am currently putting together my family's military service info and have had no luck finding any info on the 760th MP BN, and the ships my grand father was on: SS Arezanan, SS Front Royal, SS Samual Moody, and the SS Otis E. Hall If anyone could help me out by pointing me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated
Hello and welcome, What was your grandfather's association with these ships? A little more information if you have it may help us. I believe he was military police is that correct? Regarding the Merchant Marine ships that your grandfather was involved with, I can offer the following: Cargo ship OTIS E. HALL official number 246879 built in 1944 for the US Government. Broken up in Oakland January 1968. Tanker FRONT ROYAL official number 244131 built in 1943 for the US Government. 1948 renamed ESSO SHREVEPORT 1962 renamed TRUSTCO 1966 renamed OBSERVER Hulked at Port Said 1975 (trapped in Suez Canal 5.6.67) Cargo ship SAMUEL MOODY official number 241679 built in 1942 for the US Government. Broken up in Richmond, Ca. May 1964. Regarding ss “AREZANAN” can you check the spelling of that one as I don’t have her. I am sure some of the others on the forum will advise about service with 760th MP BN. Regards Hugh
My grandfather was a Gunners Mate in the navy stationed on those ships, from what i understand they were merchant marine cargo ships and what he did was work the guns for there defence My other grandfather was stationed in the pananma canal zone with the 760th, i just found his unit info. Thanks alot for the help
ReconScout, Your grandfather, the gunner's mate, would have been in the Naval Armed Guard who provided military gunnery protection for US merchant ships. Have a look at this site where you will also find details of service records: World War II US Navy Armed Guard and World War II US Merchant Marine Another good US site: American Merchant Marine at War - Revolution to World War II to today Regards Hugh
