This is what I found about them:

"72nd (Polish) Mechanical Transport Light Repair Unit

To all intents and purposes the Polish Air Force was a totally separate entity from the RAF. But, leading up to and after D-Day some Polish Air Force Units became part of the 2nd Tactical Air Force and worked under the control of the RAF.

Clearly, these men were not attached to a specific squadron and I would suggest that they were a support unit which was nominally Polish but actually supported all allied forces

A Wing consisted of several numbered support units, this varied in time. I have not seen a structure of 131 Wing, but I cannot exclude 72 MTLRU was one of them. Apart of that, PAF kept several units as a basis for post-war rebuilt of the air force after the war.

72 MTLRU was one of two such units in No 84 Group which were responsible direct to Group HQ not the Wing HQs, according to AP3397. They operated with regard to Mechanical Transport in the same way as RSUs (Repair & Servicing Unit) operated with aircraft, in that they held a small replacement pool of vehicles and to carry out repair and salvage and major inspections on all Mechanical Transport. They held a 7 days stock of 'quick turnover' items, obtaining replenishments from the ASPs (Air Stores Park). Any repairs taking longer than three days were to be returned to the Forward Repair Unit."
