Is anyone familiar with 701 Inf Div Tpt Coy? My Dad was RASC and served with 701 from July '43 until a convoy accident whilst on DR duty put him out of action on 30-5-44. I can only assume that being a week before D-Day, he may have been involved in some sort of stockpiling in readiness for the big day, but this is pure guesswork on my part. If you've got any info, no matter how small, I'd be very grateful. Thanks, Lee.
Lee, Somewhere I might have some details of what they were up to just before D Day - if I haven't replied in a couple of days PM me to remind me as my RASC stuff is on another laptop. Cheers Tom
Lee, Found the War Diary on my other laptop. By May 1944 it was 701 Coy RASC (Army Transport) and mobilising for Normandy operations. In early June it was at Leigh-on-Sea. I've attached the WD for last week in May. Regards Tom
Good work Tom, I'm much obliged. Would the war diaries @ Kew be the next step in 701 history and is it possible to discover where the vehicles were going prior to embarkation? As an aside, would the 701 vehicles have had Div markings?
