    Son of Harry and Fanny Maria Tweedale; husband of Ellen Tweedale, of Rawtenstall, Lancashire.

    William was the eldest son of Harry and Fanny Maria Tweedale of 32 Branch Street, Stacksteads and was well known in Bacup as a representative of the Scottish Legal Insurance Company.

    Following his marriage William lived with his wife Ellen, at 6 St Mary’s Terrace Rawtenstall, and had joined the forces in 1941 along with three brothers who were also serving.
    William was killed on Sword beach.
