... anyone interested ? I photographed the complete book and now am contemplating to post it bit by bit on the site, one chapter at a time. I take it you have obtained permission from the publisher to be able do this to ensure there is no contravention of copyright?
Duration of copyright for the European Union is for a ridiculous 70 years after the author's death no matter if the book is in or out of print. So legally you are on shaky ground unless you get permission to continue and who knows you might be putting the site at risk as well. Having said that it strikes me as yet another skanky copyright law.
The laws differ here in the US, as far as copyrights are concerned: "Fair use is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship. It provides for the legal, unlicensed citation or incorporation of copyrighted material in another author's work under a four-factor balancing test." US Copyright Office page on the issue: U.S. Copyright Office - Fair Use Now, how that fits across international boundaries, I don't know. This forum is hosted in the US, so I suspect that it is covered by US copyright laws, as well as US statutes covering speach. I would certainly think that this forum's action falls under one of the mentioned examples allowing publication here. I can only guess at what route Adam et al would want to take with this. What say you, Von Poop?
Why not write something original about the 6th Airborne Division in Normandy and post that? This could well include credited / acknowledged quotations from Major General 'Windy' Gale's book, as well as others who have researched and written on the subject? This would illustrate a wide reading and knowledge of the subject. More likely than not open up a wider debate about the 6th Airborne on the forum to those who are interested. It seems to me this would be a better approach than merely posting page after page of one particular book, and avoid any potntial breaches of copyright.
Attached are a couple of photographs I took at the Museum of the British 6th Airborne Division, Ranville, Calvados (i.e. the 'Musée Mémorial Pegasus', RANVILLE). One photograph shows the 6th Airborne Division Memorial Plaque and the other shows a scale model of one of the gliders. I noticed you are based near Arnhem, stolpi. Therefore, I presume you are reasonably familiar with the WW2 Airborne gliders. Found this article on an aviation geeks website and knowing very little of the role played by the 6th Airborne found it interesting: https://theavgeeks.com/2019/06/04/operation-overlord-securing-the-left-flank/ There are many threads on the division, so I choose this one simply as it has a Normandy focus.
