    • Photocopies of ts transcript (63pp) of a contemporary diary with later comments, and ts account (29pp written before 1945) expanding on the above, describing his service as a Captain with the 1st Battalion Queen Victoria's Rifles, King's Royal Rifle Corps, 30th Brigade en route to and at Calais (May - June 1940), particularly during the defence of Fort Neuilly, its surrender and his captivity en route to and in camps at Trier (June 1940) and Laufen (Oflag VII C/h, June 1940 - August 1941). He gives exceptionally good descriptions of: conditions during the fighting, French tactics and (poor) Anglo-French relations, his feelings after surrender, attitudes and behaviour of the Germans, including differences between front line and rear troops, conditions and pastimes in the camps, and on the march to them through France.
