    Hi guys,

Really struggling to find some info on the net regarding 68th Medium Regiment (West Liverpool) which my granddad Frederick Spencer Barkham served with before bing captured on the 21st of June 1941 at Torbuk.

Found a quite abit on the 67th Medium regiment from Suffolk. The the that throws me is that my granddad was born and grew up in Suffolk so would of thought he would of been enlisted in that regt and not the Liverpool regiment!

He was also in the Commandos both 1&7 but I'm not sure if he joined. Before moving to th R.A or after? Still awaiting his service record

Any help or ideas would be great.

    Cheers

    Deano

Deano, the 68 war diaries would be your best bet. Here are the National Archive references:

WO 166/1931, ROYAL ARTILLERY: MEDIUM REGIMENTS: 68 Medium Regiment. (1939 Aug.- 1940 Aug.)
WO 169/281, Royal Artillery: 68 Medium Regiment (Med Regt) (1940 Sept.- Nov.)
WO 169/1494, 68 Med. Regt. (1941 June- Dec.)

What with your other relatives, a visit to the archives would be very interesting for you.

    Hi Again Lee,

I think your right! A trip to the NA would be well worth a visit !!! Only problem is that I currently live in Germany and don't get back to the UK very often.

I would like to make the trip but would want to come back all that way to be disoppointed at not finding anything on The 68th Med Regt or 38 Sqn.

I know there are coping services out there but I don't think the companies would except my German bank card as payment???

For my copy services I can accept PayPal, IBAN bank transfer, international money order, gold sovereigns or an envelope stuffed full of Euros. :D

I looked at the 68th daries the other day for some fire plans, unfortunatly i did'nt copy the whole diary.
Well worth getting Lee or Drew to copy it for you, sould'nt be to expensive it's not too big.
    Best

Did the 68th receive any 5.5" guns in 1942?

67 and 68 Medium Regts disappear from the Order of Battle sometime after mid June 1942. They were not at Alamein, which narrows the window of disappearance to about 3 months. TA RA regts were not usually reformed after being lost, even the regulars took some time, eg 5 Fd Regt!

Andreas. Whilst not answering my question, the article and table were useful and informative. Thank you,
    David.
