My father was with the 188th battery HAA, RA, in Burma. I'm trying to find his army records but am having no luck.

No I haven't. I've only just started really, and having just returned from a holiday in Burma it has spurred me on to start research.
Do you have family who served in Burma?

    Hi Howard

    Welcome

Link for service records is - Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK

There are a number of Burma specialists on the site, so when you have the service records I would suggest you start a thread specifically for that person in a relevant topic area (Burma perhaps Burma & India)

    Good luck with your research

Hi Rob, good to hear from you. Thank you for pointing me to 'Calling Blighty', I didn't see my father on film number 402 but it was great to see the film.
I'm originally from Skipton, but my mum lived in a village just outside Rotherham. I believe she met my dad when he was on a gun site nearby. This explains the Rotherham connection.
I'm living in Hong Kong and have been here for the past 13 years. I'll keep your number for when I'm back in the UK and I will give you a ring.
Copies of the 188th War Diaries would be great! Do you have electronic copies you could email to me?

the diaries are i suppose just more of where our relatives were through the war but they will probably be more poignant to you as they give locations where soldiers were buried like the eight men who were killed when they set up camp on an old jap munitions dump and set a mine off, most of it is day to day stuff but still its the only link we have now,i just wished i had asked the questions when my grandad was alive

I have often wondered where my dad was located during the war and, through you, I hope to find out.
You mention the eight men were killed by a land mine. I have letters sent by my dad to my mum and in one of the letters he refers to this. My dad survived the war but he told us very little about his experiences.

that was the case with nearly all the soldier my grandad was mentioned in despatches but he never said why ,the gurkhas presented him with a jewel encrusted kukhri knife but it was stolen on the ship when they were coming home,i know this as my dad told me it must have been some act for this to happen also my grandads brother in law who was in the same battery also told my dad that grandad saved his life and a lot more i have been trying to find out why but to no avail
