201st Guards Brigade, 56th (London) Division, 10 Corps
67093 War Substantive Lieutenant, Temporary Captain, Acting Major Cecil HANBURY, 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    13th September / 14th September, BATTIPAGLIA.

This Officer showed exceptional courage and powers of leadership on the above-mentioned date.

The position held by the Battalion was attacked in force by the enemy who forced the tanks covering the F.D.L.s to retired and broke through the two Companies on his Left, as well as attacking him frontally.

Entirely owing to his personal leadership and total disregard for personal safety, the Company remained in their positions, and by maintaining a firm base enabled the position to be re-established by counter-attack.

I cannot recommend the conduct of this Officer too highly in ?tion and am convinced that ? [page damaged]
