    Hi all,
My Dad was also trasnferred from the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders to the 63rd ATR (or was it attached to the 63rd ?)
Originally he was REME and drove a recovery tractor (but they also had turretless Cromwells in the unit later on).
I'm not sure how someone from Staffordshire got in to a Scottish regiment (yes he had the Tam o' Shanter but said his knees were too knobbly for the kilt)
I think I recall him saying they were in an Oxfordshire regiment before that.
He has pictures of himself and friends on sea planes and on his Scammell at the Kiel base. Also tall wooden multi masted ships on the river.
There's a set of NSDAP propoganda photos he has from a house near Kiel. I just gave a copy of 2 to someone organising for Holocaust memorial day as these 2 are "Zwei Welten" showing "us" and "them" comparing a German soldier's face with a "Bolshevick'"
He told me how the 63rd went on to libereate Belsen. I'll have to ask him again for more clarity maybe, but he said that the German officer in the camp wanted to surrender to the hiighest British officer, but our man wasn't having any (so I don't know who took the formal surrender, if there was one) The Belsen camp was shut off when they arrived as there was an outbreak of typhus at that time. So Dad didn't take up on the chance to go in to the camp as some did, they were outside it.

Hopefully these snippets could be of use to anyone else on here who may be researching, or just curious.

Have you got a copy of your fathers service records? They will reveal all the units and where he served with them amongst othr things.
