Hi all I am trying to tack down any detail on my granfarther who served with the 4th battalion, east Kent and Surrey regiment, the buffs. I have tried for years but have yet to find any information. many thanks Adam
Have you got his number correct ? It should be 7 digits long. The Buffs were The East Kents. No need to add Surrey - that a different regiment.
Many thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion, The details I have are that he was in the 4th Battalion, East Surrey regiment. I will double check his service number.
See this thread for which regiment he enlisted into. Army Number Block Allocations East Surrey Regiment 6132001 - 6188000 The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) 6278001 - 6334000
The army number: 6287228 indicates that the soldier's original unit or date joined was: "The Buffs (East Kent Regiment)" Are there any war diary’s from the East Kent Regiment? I have my grandfathers diary which states he was sent to Aldershot in 1939 before being sent to Cherbourg then Beaumont by train then Nantes by truck. He was then injured and sent to The Hermitage hotel in La Boule-Escoublac which had been turned into a hospital. many thanks Adam
