The 626 Field Squadron, R.E. was part of the 6th Armoured Division and I would track them as the 626 only has 4 entries in Volume IX of the History of the Corps of Royal Engineers. I will look at these to see if there is anything of interest.

The war diaries will be at national archives. Im only 25 minute drive from there and should really go soon as my card to view original documents runs out soon. Thanks for your help.

I was going to suggest a couple of members who would do it for you but better if you can go yourself.
    Good luck.

626 Fld Sqn joined 6th Armoured Div on or about 26 July 1944, as for war diaries they appear under different units, for a while they were known as 626 Fld Coy and before that 6 Fld Sqn.

They actually entered Italy with the Black Rats in Sept 43 and fought with them through to Dec.

There is a book Royal Engineers 6th Armoured Division that chronicles the later part of their war service
