currently staying in France around Hazebrouck. Looking where my great uncle was captured at Cassel, reminded me of the wifes great uncle William Hatt , we knew as Cyril was taken POW and ended up at Sagan.
His mother said, that when he walked up the garden path on return home, she didnt recognise him.
Im looking into where he was taken POW on 28th June 1944. only records I know of are that he was with the Suffolk Regiment 6028734. Ive been given some advice by a person whose own relation was at Stalag VIIIC Sagan.
can anyone elaborate where Cyril was taken POW?
the NA does not have record of where or theatre he was in only that he was taken to Limburg XIIA POW no 81207. unfortunately the ICRC only takes a certain number of requests for WW2 so I cant access any more.

I know you don't know his battalion but that date stands out for me.
Off top of my head I think there was only 1 battalion of Suffolks in France in '44.

Have a look at CHATEAU DE LA LONDE , 1st Suffolks heavily involved in that action.
Plenty of threads on the forum about it.
    War diaries , maps etc.

Chateau La Londe 27th June 1944

    Hi,

May not assist you while you are on the ground in France atm but Red Cross enquiry window reopens on Monday 25th September.

As you suggest you’ve made previous applications I won’t give chapter & verse on the process other than to say you need to set your alarm clock early on Monday if you do intend to make an application as the enquiry time slot window closes very quickly.
