Morning folk's,one of my in laws Grandfather was killed with the regiment in Italy,I recently traced him as gunner James Hall killed 5/11/44 and interred Meldola war cemetery,CWGC records show him buried with two other comrades with the same date of death,I wondered if anyone with a knowledge of the regiment or Campaign could shed some light on events, perhaps they were the same gun or vehicle crew? Regard's Steve.
Hi Steve, He was a member of 237 Bty. He was probably killed when a 3 ton portee overturned when a bank near Battery HQ gave way. A total of 3 men died in the incident. This is logged at 2000hrs in the WD for that day. No other incidents involving loss of life were noted for that day.
Many thank's,strange though there were a half dozen replies to my initial question which seem to have vanished including the war diary entries kindley sent by Drew despite my knowledge of the incident again thanks for taking the time to reply
