5th FAHPU, Rangoon 1945

I've traced my Uncle's repatriation from Bangkok to Rangoon after POW liberation in Thailand, to 5 FAHPU Rangoon. Now I'm keen to know what this acronym stood for. I know he was not a well man and was one of the last to be repatriated to UK so am wondering whether FAHPU might have stood for Field Ambulance Health Protection Unit or similar, where they kept those with contagious illness until fit for return home. Unfortunately my research on the unit has come to a dead stop. Anyone out there might be able to shed some light?

Curiously the IWM have a close match with AFPU, which is very different: Army Film and Photo Section, Army Film and Photographic Unit. No. 5 AFPU was in Europe and No.9 in India / Burma. Possibly 5 FARHU, Forward Army Reinforcement Holding Unit. My father was in 2 FARHU and dealt with RAPWI personnel when the war finished.

5 FARHU, formed from the former 32 Reinforcement Camp at Comilla, arrived at Rangoon 14th Aug 44. By 19th Aug had formed a camp site at Dalhousie Park for a RAPWI reception camp of three sections, enough for 900 men. The first week of September saw the first RAPWI's arrive. By the middle of October this camp began duties as a HBTD with thousands of men being shipped home on the Python scheme as well. This continued into 1946.

Reading through my reply above...two errors!! 5 FARHU arrived at Rangoon 1945 from Chittagong. I did have a large glass of G&T in my hand while typing!
