Hello out there. New to all this, so guidance appreciated. Looking to find out more about my Dad's time in the army. Served between Feb 1936 & March 1946. Most of his service was in Palestine. Nov '37 - Aug '43. Then BNAF. until Mid Dec '43.
His "Certificate of Service" is very brief. So am I safe to say, I need to apply for his service records first ?
The "575 COY (CMT) RASC" is noted on his release certificate, but I am guessing that my just be where he ended up when finishing. Rather than where he spent his whole time. Any suggestions would be welcome. I have left this rather late. So on a mission :)

Welcome to the forum, You are correct, service records are essential and ONLY available from one place:
Requests for personal data and service records: a detailed guide - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Remember that you do not need any military details although I guess you know some from his certificate. There is not much out on the internet for personal WW2 information but, if you post whatever details you have you never know. Good luck.

    Morning Ged,

It might help if you are able to post your father's details on here.

No 575 Coy RASC comes up in a search at Key, only 575 Coy RE.
Is it possibly a misreading of 525 Coy?

    Hi
I see getting his service record could be a drawn out process. So in the meantime, I have attached some copies from C of S. On the off chance, it might mean something to somebody out there

    Hi Ged,

The Campaign Medal Roll for The General Service Medal with Clasp for Palestine 1936-39 shows Dvr JJ Taylor as initially serving with 17 Company RASC before posting to 68 Company RASC wef 20 Sep 38.

    Hi Bruneval
That information is appreciated. I don't recall his service medals listed properly in his C of S but I know he has a few. But they are in possession of my nephew, who was close to my father. This does give my somewhere else to look, for the time being. Thanks again

    Afternoon Ged,

So, for the past 5-6 years I have been researching 14 Company RASC who were based in Palestine prior to the start of WW2, hence why I was interested to know what unit your father served in; there were not that many RASC companies in Palestine at the time.

I have been reading the Company's War Diary again, and came across an entry on 21 Aug 1942 with the following person T/61454 Sgt Taylor J.J.

I will send you a message with my email address.

    Regards
