Here is a painted stone that I have found through seeking anything relating to albert from family. I just thought this was interesting Martyn
Here is a plate that again has been recovered from a family member, this is interesting as on the back it is signed "Nobby". I was wondering if anyone else has found anything by him or anything like this, and is "Nobby" a fellow 56th? I have been told that Albert alwasy spoke about Nobby as a fried but that is all I can find out. Martyn
Martyn, from dad’s papers I can confirm that there was a ‘Nobby’ Clarke in 56 Recce and furthermore he was in 15 Troop. Don’t know if he was an artist but a possibility for your man. A common nickname for someone called Clarke.

This photo might be of interest to someone (possibly to relatives of those in it). In it are Tom Hunt, Sgt. Brian Bradley, Reg Atwell and ?? Trotman. The letter, sent to the 56th Recce newsletter in '97 elaborates... First time here and I get a picture of my Dad, Sgt Brian Bradley Many thanks Seamus Bradlet

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and I would like to introduce myself, my name is Joe and I have been in the Royal Australian Navy for 37 years. Twenty four of those full time and a reservist since 1999. My interest in the forum stems from my uncle, Trooper R W Blake (Bob) of the 56th Reconnaissance Corp. He joined the Kings Royal Rifle Corp on the day after his 18th birthday on the 1st August 1939 at the Whips Cross Enrolment Center and was told to report to the Offord Rd Drill hall in Walthamstow on the 9 Aug 1939, his Army no. was 6852437. About 10 months after joining up they were paraded one day and told to choose between 3 options, the Parachute Reg, the Commandos or the Reconnaissance Corps. Obviously he chose Recce along with 6 others. Their names were Chamberlain, Webber, Faint, Bennet, Chappel and his mate Alfie Caswell. Once they had made their choice, those that wanted to be Recce were ordered into a room one at a time where there was a table with various objects on it. An officer was also sitting in the room apparently to distract them. After a time they were taken back outside and questioned as to what was on the table, if they remembered they were in, apparently they all made it. They were then told to report to Chadacre Park where their training really began. My uncle wrote down all this plus much much more in a thick manuscript for the family. I have a photo copy of it all and if anyone is interested I can post some of it up here for you to read.
Hello Joe and a warm welcome to the forum. Great to have another 56 Recce here! There are quite a few of us. We would be very interested in the manuscript if you would like to post it up here. Have you any photos of your uncle you share with us? Lesley
