Are you aware your grandfather wrote an account of his war 'A Heavy Gunner at war Jan 43 to May 45' ? I remember that he bought it to a battery reunion many years ago. My father was a L/Bdr in the battery and I used to attend the reunions with him. Weirdly I found tonight a copy of a page from his account which I had forgotten all about referring to an incident in Italy

The regimental history printed in Holland after the war has a description of the actions at Banana Ridge and Djebel Djaffa. My uncle was captured at the time and ended up as a POW.

    Hi Bill,
Two years later so unlikely, but do you still have an copy of the 'A Heavy Gunner at War Jan 43 to May 45'?

Max, Bill re: your interest in Djebel Djaffa/Banana Ridge.
Bill was your uncle captured on 21st April during the German Operation Fliederblüte (Lilac) 20/21st April 1943.
Cant think when else he could have been taken POW.
Do you know of any other prisoners taken with him
I have a few first hand stories about the Artillerymen in that action.
