Have some docs and info on 19 batt in tunisia, italy, germany and holland. These are my now deceased father Gunner jack Baileys memoirs and was wondering if any one out there would like sight of them. Regards Peter Bailey.
Peter I think that I can safely say that there will be some followers of this forum who will be very interested in reading your father's memoirs. If you have any photographs that you are able to upload, I'm sure that these will also be of interest, (in my case, particularly if they show vehicles or equipment!). Welcome to the forum! Dave
56 Heavy Regiment RA was wonderful Spike Milligan’s unit. He supported the X (British) Corps assault over the Garigliano in Jan 44. Regards Frank
The other battery had originally been raised in 1908 at Saltley, Birmingham, as the South Midland (Warwickshire) Royal Garrison Artillery, which provided the Heavy battery of the 48th (South Midland) Division of the TF. It had served on the Western Front during the First World War.
Hi Peter, I've just come across this thread and hope you're still monitoring. I have some photos and documents belonging to my grandfather who was in North Africa in 1942/43. It would be great to have a chat about them.
Matt, if you click on the ID name below the avatar, you can see when someone last signed in, Peter last signed in 1st July, 2020. For those interested in the Regiment: 56 Heavy Regiment RA - The Royal Artillery 1939-45
Matt, You might choose to post the photos anyway, they would be appreciated by the members and the docs might reveal something of interest too. Its about time the Artillery Regiments were mentioned more. I'm sure that Derek (ra 1939-45) would read them to check his facts. Noticed another previous posting: "The other battery had originally been raised in 1908 at Saltley, Birmingham, as the South Midland (Warwickshire) Royal Garrison Artillery, which provided the Heavy battery of the 48th (South Midland) Division of the TF. It had served on the Western Front during the First World War". Ay ideas about this? Perhaps you might like to help.
