Hi there. I'm trying to find out information about my grandad Edward Francis tibbles 5672603 he was in 2/5th queens royal regiment d coy and was captured in abbeville on the 21/05/1940 if you had any help or advice would be really appreciated Thanks gary
Cheers Andy more excellent info! I spoke to a member of the french resistence who remembers the Queen's coming into Pont Remy. I gave him a cap badge and he was chuffed to bits. Was telling me, via translator what he did to the germans! I'm heading over to Bellancourt again for May 8th, they'll be interested to read the bits from the war diaries.
Hi thanks for the info you been very informative. I wonder if he was in one of the plattons that strayed behind.Unfortunately we don't have any photos from ww2 of him.was hopeing their may have been some taken before they left but this seems unlikely.
The only other obvious line of enquiry that I can think of is to see if he completed a PoW Questionniare at the National Archives. To be fair you are quite lucky to know his Company....Most people never get to narrow it down any further than a Battalion.
A few pics from Epagne and Bellancourt. First two are Bn HQ and the third the graves north of Bellancourt.
Hi all, I would supplement post de Queensman3348: Eaucourt Sur Somme Cemetery a message from the sister of THORNE, REGINALD GEORGE Coquerel Cemetery
Had a chat with Eric Reeves ex D Company, sorry, unfortunately no joy. Just come back from Bellancourt and Walked the ground with a 1943 map and the report from Capt Moore. Was fantastic to actually be able to have a better idea of the rough locations and direction of defence/attack. I will post a scan of the map which shows areas of Bellancourt surrounded by Orchards, these don't survive today, but some trees do and give a small idea of cover and ground. Link to our parade on the 8th if anyone is interested. We are a living history group so if anyone is offended by that then I'm sorry http://www.courrier-picard.fr/region/solennite-et-emotion-ia174b0n77106
