Was at Barnard Castle last week (getting my eyes tested ) and whilst looking in an antiques shop spotted this cross stitch for the 55th regiment of foot and couldn't resist it.
Got it for 30 quid didn't think it was bad. There was no history to it the seller didn't know anything about it but it smells old but in good nick.
Finally got round to buying a frame that fits, I've just put it into the frame to see what it looks like at the moment but I think it is needing a back ground and something done with the blank bit in the middle ? So I'm wondering if anyone as any good ideas as what to do with it ? My thought was a red background and red in the middle part but with maybe a 55th cap badge placed in the empty gap i noticed I can get a copy for about 17 quid. So any thoughts would be appreciated cheers Mike.
Double check the colour, I don't want the blame when someone points out that it's wrong. This 1900 print shows yellow facings for The Border Regiment. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/bri...ent-c1900-by-harry-payne--534732155743179489/ 55th Foot became the 2nd Bn Border Regt.
55th (Westmoreland) Regiment of Foot The early facings are dark green but there are some I've just seen yellow. There's a Facebook page where there is a picture of both yellow and green facings so ill think ill go for green
