544 Assault Flotilla Royal Marines

    Brief info on the Monowai, this ship was original from New Zealand, and information, photo’s etc are in the National War Memorial Museum in Auckland

    • SS Monowai - J30, Ex Armed Merchant Cruiser Razmak. A large and fast cargo liner built in 1924. She was 10,852 tons, 519 foot long and could make 20 knots. She carried ten LCA from 544 Royal Marine Assault Flotilla, nine LCA from 556 Royal Marine Assault Flotilla.

    - LCA 208 - LCA 462 - LCA 1057
    - LCA 280 - LCA 683 - LCA 1091​

    Good morning,

    I've just come across this discussion. I'm Cpl Bakers granddaughter. He sadly passed away in 2016. I wish I'd found this sooner. He always spoke with fondness as well as sadness for "his boys" as he called them.
