Thanks Clive. Very likely a casualty to Chindit 2. 14th British Infantry Brigde.

The regimental history ( published 1986 ) contains various personal accounts and extracts from diaries including the following brief extracts:

" No. 61 Column now received orders to get information about the Indaw area, particularly to probe the enemy defences......It left Gahe on 20 April and established Column HQ just inside the jungle on the southern edge of Indaw. Three platoon patrols ( No.13, 14 and 16 ) were sent out the following day - 21st. They were lightly equipped, but carrying three day's rations......

" No. 16 Platoon Commander Lieutenant L.J. Stevens. Patrolled to east of Indaw.

Discovered dump in outlying village of Tonbon, which was strongly guarded by 40 to 50 Japs.

Battle develops - results generally satisfactory.

L.C-pl Sherwood killed while leading his section on a bold ouftlanking move."
