    53176 Temporary Major Henry Cockfield Luke DIMSDALE, 3rd Battalion WELSH GUARDS

    At HAMMAN LIF on 9th May 1943 No. 1 Company was ordered to take a high feature which the leading companies had failed to capture.

    Major DIMSDALE led his company with great gallantry and skill in the face of heavy Machine Gun and Mortar fire and succeeded in taking the enemy position. He was the first man on to the objective and his conduct and leadership throughout the operation was outstanding.
