I have jut received my Grandfathers ROS for WW2 and there are a few things on it that I cannot make out. I am hoping someone on here might be able to help me. In 1943 he was attached to 158 Bty, admitted 8 SACCS - posted to X (ii). Does anyone know what SACCS means and what the x(ii) would be please. Also does anyone know what W.P.P, 1st 8 Bn IRTD, IDS 4 Bn 1 IRTD and 2 G.G.D Regt means please. I have managed to decypher most of the ROS just these things baffle me. Any help that anyone could be would be greatly appreciated.
Hi. Thank you for that, that clears up one of the abbreviations. Any ideas why he would have been there?
Hi. Thank you for that, that clears up one of the abbreviations. Any ideas why he would have been there? f I'm correct in what the abbreviation is he would have been wounded. Was he serving in North Africa at the time?
According to his ROS, he had only just arrived as part of the Middle Eastern Forces and attached to 158 Bty. That was in Feb '42. He was injured but not until Nov '42 when he was admitted to 14 Field Ambulance.
Hi there, I had the same problem when translating my grandfathers service records and found this source of information after trawling the web for hours, it explains the x list part pretty well. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/searching-someone-military-genealogy/19949-x-lists-service-records.html
8th (South African) Casulaty Clearance Station, was part of X Corps in OCt 1942. At this time 53 (King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry) LAA Regiment served with X Corps as part of 10th Armoured Division
Slater sound like he was wounded after El Alamein when 10th Armoured Div was swanning around getting lost and running out of fuel around and beyond Fuka -with the 7th Armoured - 1st armoured ( Monty's Corps de Chasse) and the NZ division and all being drowned by very heavy rain - which caused Monty to be labelled " slow " the abbreviations have been taken care of and the X(ii) means he was on the sick list and not on his unit strength at that time - he then went off at the IRTD to have some more training and finally back to his unit - or another one if they had moved on - or if he was put on a different category healthwise say from A1 - to B1 - just the Army's way of confusing people.... Cheers
This is all very helpful thanks to you all. If anyone else is able to help or has anything to add, it would be most grateful.

Thanks for all your help on this, I just have one more question that I hope someone may be able to help clear up. In 1943 it appears that my Grandfather was transferred to Loyal Regiment (8 BN, IRTD) and there is C.T.B.A. Does anyone know what or who these may be please.

Thank you. Any idea who Loyal Regiment is? The loyals (North Lancashire) Regiment. I dont think that they had an 8th Bn though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyal_Regiment_(North_Lancashire) the 1st Loyals fought in North Africa, as I have two local casualties serving wit them, one killed in Tunisia and one in Italy
