Hi, I am trying to find out which Recce Regt Tpr G Blakemore served with in Burma during WW2. Can anybody help advise? I have no idea how many or which units served there. Any help appreicated, Cheers, Rick
Rick he does not appear in my incomplete Recce lists, but the Recce units that served in Burma are 1st, 45th, 81st W. African & 82nd West African Cheers Paul
Hi Rick, I have not picked him up on my Chindit travels, but this only covers the 45th anyway. Good luck going forward with this one. Steve
2 Recce Regt or 45 Recce Regt. The troopers in the West African Recce Regts would have been West Africans.
Many thanks for the input guys, at least I know there is a good chance he was 2 or 45 Recce. cheers, Rick
Can't add anything except to say he has a Glosters number. 5183219. All that shows is he originally enlisted into them. Gloucestershire Regiment 5172001 - 5239000 http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/4837-army-number-block-allocations/
Hi, I have just got a copy of his trace card..... Recce Corps 43rd Bn 14.10.41, 45th Bn 18.02.42, to India 23.08.42, arrived India 18.10.42, to 2nd Ech X List 21.03.43, 45th Regt 12.04.43, Transferred to R signals Oct 44 Would he have been operating with the Chindits? Cheers, Rick
Yes, if he was with the battalion all of the time between 12/04/43 and 10/44, then it is most likely that he was.
