My neighbour is a veteran with 5 DCLI and I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the unit War Diary from 31 October 1944 onwards when he joined them.

Member Ken Smith is also a veteran of 5/DCLI.

He has never met or spoken to another vet of the battalion, am sure he would be interested in this.

Why is this in the DLI subforum?
DCLI is Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry not Durham Light Infantry .

Lots of diaries for this unit, here's a couple for late 1944:

WO 171/1282 5 Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry 1944 Oct.

WO 171/1283 5 Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry 1944 Nov.

I honestly dont know, Owen. Not by intention. I tried to put it into the Other Units section. Feel free to move it if you wish.

"DCLI is Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry not Durham Light Infantry ."

And there was me thinking the C was silent...

Andy, thanks for the NA references.

    Hi Ken

I havent been able to speak to Norman since I sent you the PM. I barely get to see him even though he is just next door. He's never in and one of the most active people round here! If I can pin him down for two minutes I'll see if I can get more information out of him.

If there is anything you can tell me in the meantime, I'll only be too glad to read it.
