    concerning

Maybe this is not the right place for the thread but dit the N°2 B.O.D. belong to an army corps, or to another form of higher echelon? which one?

Rich has probably told you by now but 2 Base Ordnance Depot was part of the Rouen Base Sub Area within the North District of the BEF's Lines of Communication. It is explained in Alan Philson's book about the BEF order of battle, volume 3. When you receive your copy of 'Vehicle Markings of the BEF' you will be able to find the appropriate Arm of Service marking for it. (If Rich hasn't already shared it with you.)

Finally - I saw the attached picture in (I think) a German book about Dunkirk. It says it is a picture of Cherbourg and it certainly looks like that to me.

Isn't that a 'Tilly'? If it is, it's the only one I have ever seen in France in 1940.

    Andrew,

Indeed, Rich gave me already the info. It should be 73.
This picture is also in the book Tilly Colours of Michael Shackleton of the Tilly Register.
It is an Austin with an early, not camouflaged, tilt
Another picture is this one which I think comes from somewhere on this forum

So there are two pictures of Austin Tilly's in France and mine with the original markings found on it.

That is great. if you mark your Tilly with 73 with the split white bar above it I think you will be the first vehicle owner / restorer to have such a Lines of Communication marking!

That's amazing. A very neat job and the first ever Lines of Communication AoS on a restored vehicle (I think). I hope that is the first of many new markings on vehicles.

Thanks for the picture. I have printed it out and stuck it on the wall in my 'office'.

    All the best

I've just bought the book "Blitzkrieg 1940" by Ward Rutherford, and in this book I found this picture:

According to the capture this is the port of Cherbourg. Could that be your Tilly I wonder?

    Jan,

It sure is the same as mine. Same model, same tilt. But I hope it is not mine because I applied the BEF camouflage and this one has no camo at all on the tilt.
I have a rather small copy of this picture but not so bright as this one. Thank you.

In case somebody would still have doubts about the use of Austin Tillies by the BEF... :D
