Reflect on what might have been !! No not really, My four cats needed delousing so spent the day chasing them around the garden. Three down one to go. When I lived in my detached house I had up to 5 cats! Right now in a two room apartment I keep my William of Orange, and I have to brush him daily or I'll have cat fur taking the place over!
I just trimmed the trees in the back yard, getting ready for mates to come over tomorrow and have a bbq. Weather is meant to be great so ill get the beer pong table out too...
I'll be taking my Chevy G20 dayvan ('93 5.7V8) and driving 109 miles from Somerset to Stratford Armouries, where our yank car club are having a 4th July bbq. I havent decided which stetson to wear, but i will be wearing a hand-embroidered shirt, 501's and some kicking boots. Music will be Garth Brooks 'the hits', and probably some Boss. Other than that, not much. Pete.
watching the Tour de France edit: ooh yes I forgot, there is an American in there. Well since Lance isn't in it, will it be as interesting?
A happy 4th of July to you people anyway, like it or not. I will have 10 or 12 beers in your collective honor (since our beer is about as half as strong as yours) at the pool party/BBQ tomorrow in spite of yourselves in addition to what I planned to have anyway. God Save the Queen, Long Live George (Washington), Vive Lafayette, UK/US forever and to hell with the damn Yankees! Y'all some great guys, no matter what they say about you over on ww2f....
A-58 Lance is in there! for the last time and having been in DC on 4 July one knows to avoid celebrations like you have. Happy 4th of July too Ya
Here's the great day! A hearty hug to all Nephews of Uncle Sam, and may the BBQ and libations stick in their memories on this day of their Independence !
Sincere commiserations to those unfortunate enough to have broken away from the Empire in the fourth English Civil War. May the December the 16th act of terrorism not go unpunished. God save the King/Queen. etc.
A55: As Mr. Oldman says, lance is in there and in 4th spot. For the July 4th celebrations I will give him my full support. I rather hope he makes it No. 8.
We dont really celebrate over here Nothing at all? Not even the Queens birthday or Trafalgar Day? Might play some Grateful Dead CDs. Bit of a deadhead sometimes.... You need to get out more often. They left out homophobia and gun violence.
I know that my American Cousin (Another Tom) will be watching the film Independence Day, which has become a 4th July event in his household. Having said that, I too like the film Regards Tom
A55: As Mr. Oldman says, lance is in there and in 4th spot. For the July 4th celebrations I will give him my full support. I rather hope he makes it No. 8. Hey thanks, I didn't know that he had entered the race this year. I knew that he was in training and had openly talked of going back to it, but that's all. The Tour is not being played up in the news since that great big kickball tournament with all the plastic horns being blown all the time is going on. I guess Lance figured it was a better thing to train and have sponsors pay his way instead of getting a real job like the rest of us. My contribution to the pool party/BBQ is potato salad for 20 or so, so it's off to the kitchen to get started. Festivities commence at 1330 CST. The beer is in the cooler and I am almost ready! On a bit of a somber note, one of my com-padre's (Lt. Dave Conaway) initiated a traffic stop on the raised portion of I-10 in Iberville Parish yesterday afternoon (I am a Louisiana State Policeman if ya'll didn't know). The driver of the vehicle jumped out the car and immediately began shooting, unloading a revolver at my buddy, hitting him in the side (lower right abdomen, above the gun belt) and the upper right thigh, missing the bone. He was wearing his bullet proof vest, but he was shot as he was stepping out of his patrol car, with the unprotected right side exposed. Dave "relocated" to the rear of his vehicle and drew his weapon in anticipation of being in a lengthy shooting situation, but the shooter jumped back into his vehicle and sped off. Of course the incident was captured on Dave's patrol vehicle camera, and he called in his stop (vehicle description, license information, location, etc) as per procedure. That information was relayed to all units in the area, and fortunately the bad guy was stopped minutes later by one of our units in Lafayette, about 15 miles away. Naturally the bad guy jumped out with his hands up and didn't want any part of a blazing gun battle. Last reports of the shooter's condition was stable, which is pretty good considering the ass-whooping he got before being taken into custody. Our detectives were trying interview the bad guy to ascertain why he did what he did, but our people don't speak Spanish and the bad guy can't speak at all right now. Dave will keep one bullet with him from now one due to it's proximity to some vital organs, but the docs pulled the one out of his leg for a souvenir. At last report, he should be out of the hospital today, but won't be in attendance at the pool party/BBQ today. He will be going home instead to rest. Hopefully he will get some rest since his his hospital room was inundated with fellow Troopers, deputies and policemen from the region. The first two shooting situations that I was involved in was with Dave while we were working details in New Orleans. He is a Gulf War veteran (Parts 1 & 2) with the rank of full colonel in the USMCR, a 26+ year veteran of LSP, married with two girls in high school, and a great guy. We've hoisted many a pint and smoked many a cigar together, and when he gets better, we'll do it again.
Bobby, " Kickball tournament" such a blasphamas comment could only come from a American who is probably really Irish none the less have a great day mate and have one of them beers for me im damn thirsty
