I've just returned from a somewhat disappointing guided tour of Arnhem. On the trip I met a lady whose uncle was killed on 13th April 1945 with the 4th Lincolnshire Regiment in the operation to finally drive the Germans out of Arnhem. She was the first family member to visit his grave. She had no idea what had happened to him and only knew his name, rank and serial no.

I have been able to find out the basics for her from Wikipedia but if anyone has any detailed info on the op. I'd love to be able to pass it on to her and her family.

    Thanks!

If not too far from London it might be worth visiting the National Archives to read the unit's war diary..there may be a report on this day's actions......unlikely that your man is mentioned by name in the WD however.....

On looking at the Regt's War Diaries for about this time in April, it says that "A" Troop were ordered to move to a new gun area and engage + distroy a "FACTORY" which is occupied by the enemy, and two days later to engage the Gas-Works. Could this be the same place, do you think? it dos'nt give any details.
    Cheers
    Rob.

Am missing the last No of the Gun Area 867? the RHQ was at Etten, but the Troop had to move for this.

It could also be that the ENKA factory mentioned was the AKU factory at Arnhem, there was also some heavy about that.
