Maybe a bit self indulgent but I did some research a while ago into the death of my uncle Harry White of the 4th Green Howards on 29th May 1940 that may be of interest (see attachment in two parts) . It's highly likely that fellow Green Howards J H Bonnard , I. Mcelroy and W G Upton were killed and William Desmond Chapman badly wounded in the same incident at or near Ypres (shell explosion ). I'm in Ypres a week on Sunday, Craig. I was planning on popping in to the cemetery to pay respects to the lads in the 1940 plot so I'll certainly tip a nod at Harry's grave.
Question- this is a picture of some of the 4th Green Howards in 1939 shortly before they left for France when they were billeted at Bourton on the Water. There are around 80 men in the picture , would the make up of ranks and numbers mean this is a Company ? Only names I know are pte. Harry White ( my uncle killed 29.05.40 Ypres ) seated third from left and Sgt. John Lister seated 7th from right. Craig
