I have been tracing my father’s time in Burma with 4th Field RA. Like so many, he said very little about his experiences. After he passed away I ordered his military papers and copies of the war diaries of 4th Field RA. I can see that there were 3 Batteries: 14/66 Field Battery, 7th Field Battery and 522 Field Battery in his regiment. It appears dad's memories match some of the places 7th Field RA were at. My question is, would it have been likely, dad stayed with this battery (7Bty) during his time in Burma? Many thanks.

Generally, men stayed with the company or battery they began with unless something untoward happened such as a loss of a company/companies or battery/batteries that required reorganization. If there was a change in specialty, then a soldier may change due to a need in another company or battery. This is not a hard or fast rule but based on observation on many war diaries.

In my father's case he joined his Battery as a Gunner and progressed through the ranks to Sergeant. He was then commissioned. What has always surprised me is that he then returned to the same Battery as an officer.
