Hi All, Just looked at the list that John let me have and I've found another 4 that were at Arnhem... Thanks John Cheers Tom
Hi Philip, Just wondering have you turn up anything for the 27.02.1945... I've talked to Wally Smith today and he seen to think they could be victims of a bombing raid strange that five Dorset's all have the same dod... Cheers Tom
Hi Philip, I can now add to the above post the 3 Soldiers below as well... 156 Para 250 (Airborne) KOSB All were killed on a allied bombing raid...
The fighting during Veritable on 15 & 16 February 1945 to reach Blacknik Farm on the Bedburg -Uedem road just east of the Eselsberg did cost the battalion a awfull lot of men. See: VERITABLE: 15th Scottish & 43rd Wessex Divisions in the Reichswald battle (Feb 1945)
Hi Philip, I can now add to the above post the 3 Soldiers below as well... 156 Para 250 (Airborne) KOSB All were killed on a allied bombing raid... Tom Thanks for the additional information in your email - certainly looks as though there were at least 8 allied casualties to that bombing raid. John
In the meanwhile if anyone still any information or documentation is most welcome , from Veterans, archives, papers, etc ,etc

Hello Gents, I heard today that the memorial at The Weterbouwing has been covered in with 6' fence panels. The cafe closed and the site is now being leased by a Dutch chap who runs it as an events location. He doesn't like people coming up there if not invited. He aslo seems to be ignoring the fact that a footpath runs at the edge of the site. The locals are not at all pleased and pressure is being put upon the owner by the local burgomeister. It seems the owner was not consulted before this happened.Representations have been made by The Old Comrades as well. Just to make you all aware. This may be old news, but I wasnt aware regards Nick 4th Dorsets LHG
Hi everyone, I am new to this site so bare with me and not sure if this thread is now closed. Trying to research my Gramps history with the 4th Battalion Dorsets hence finding your site. I have numerous paperwork i.e. Service and Pay book, Soldiers Release Book, Medals, cap badge and two photographs with him in them. I am not sure if this is helpful at all to anyone or if you have these photos already. My Gramp died only few years ago at the age of 88 and would rarely talk to anyone about his war experience. I have been to the 'Keep' a few years ago now as a whistle stop tour but feel another visit is due.
Sorry, was meant to say the photographs are one with 16 men in 3 rows (one l'Cpl and the rest Pte's) and the other 69 men all placed in rows and in front of what looks a military building. Front row are Sgt's and what looks like two officers, the rest I can't make out. Again, you might have these photos already.
Hi Lippett, I had the pleasure of going to Arnhem this year with Wally Smith and a group of others. Wally is ex 4th Dorsets and was one of the few who crossed the Rhine and fought in Oosterbeek in Sept 1944. All the best..........
Philip, was 15FDS RAMC involved? My father was in the RASC attached to 15FDS and told me his unit ferried Arnhem survivors back after they had swum the river to safety. Rgds. nrsmith
