Monument in memory of the 4/7th Royal Dragoon Guards, of the 8th Armoured Brigade. (Located at the northern gate of the town, at the foot of Creully Castle in Normandy.)
The War Diary seems overly brief in its description of D-Day 6th June itself with no entries after early morning! They went on to liberate Creully itself late morning and then pushed south towards Martragny. They still have a very active Old Comrades Association (The Creully Club) and will, as always, be present at the Memorial in Creully at 11am on 6th June for a service and Wreath laying. They will also be at other commemorations in the area later on the 6th and the 7th including at Lingevres and Tessel although their day actually kicks off with a small ceremony at the lighthouse at Ver sur Mer at, I believe, 9am and which is at the beach they actually landed on. Their commemorations last year at their Creully Memorial for the 70th Anniversary were televised by Channel Four and a short piece was uploaded to YouTube. Quite splendid and run by the indomitable Cecil Newton who must be the only former Trooper who now commands Brigadiers on that day at least! Link to the YouTube video: http://youtu.be/y8SO9U7xTA8
