I have tried searching the web for info about this company/section but can't find anything. Have also tried the RE Museum. They could not find much and suggested I try the Public records Office. My grandfather served in this unit through ww2 and Palestine. He drove a D8 armoured Bulldozer and landed on Gold Beach, was a month in Caan, went through Antwere, crossed Rhine at Wesel, was shot through shoulder there, and finally met Russions at Lubek. Can anyone out there provide further info on the 49th Mechaincal Equipment Section/unit
Hi Dave and welcome to the forum. We have a member called Sapper who was a Engineer on Sword beach. Hopefully he'll be able to help you out. Regards Andy
Daveindales - Welcome to the Forum. Do any family members have any photos of him in uniform, details of his army service number, medals. I'm thinking of his army service records, which would tell you a lot more. You would need a little more information to get these. Regards - Robert

I have had a quick scout around the RE website and can't find anything relating to the 49th but it appears they were of a troop size which is quite a small formation. I don't suppose you know what his higher formation is by any chance? ie His Company? Andy
Dave, Hello and welcome to the forum. I wish you well on your quest for further information. Regards Tom
yes, I have his medals, together with his army service number. My next step is to apply for his service record Bingo, that will help you a lot. I will send you a private message on this site on how to apply for them. Once you get them, please come back to this site and members can help you interpret most of the terminology they use and identify the exact unit he was in. I applied for my dad's earlier this year and it took about 6 weeks. Cheers - Robert
