hi all does anyone have the war diaries for the above. i am particulary wanting the lincolnshire regiment, 2nd essex and any field ambulance diaries. cheers andrew.
paul would like entire lincolnshire regiment in normandy, my grandad was with them. i believe he passed through pont audemer 26th-27th aug. his brother was killed 26th in pont audemer (13th battalion parachute regiment). his body was left at a nearby church for the 49th to move. i believe the 2nd essex relieved the paras, so would like their diaries for aug 25th-30th. any field ambulance records or diaries would be good (trying to find out why he is buried 30-40miles away in st desir - only para in cemetery). thanks.
grandad in 4th battalion lincs regiment...... wounded 3rd sept (and out of the war). his full normandy war diary would be great, plus any other info if not too much trouble... cheers andrew
(trying to find out why he is buried 30-40miles away in st desir - only para in cemetery). I think St Desir was just used as a concentration cemetery for the scattered graves in the later stages of the Normandy campaign & breakout.
Hi Andrew You've probably already seen this link to the Lincolnshire Regiment site about the 4th battalion in WW2. The Saturday Night Soldiers I know it's not the WD that you want, but if you have not seen it, it gives you a potted history of their time. Have contacted that site several times to donate the the details I have on the 7th Battalion, but they couldn't be bothered to respond. Some of the 7th's officers and men were regulars from the pre war 1st & 2nd Battalions. Cheers - Robert
Paul + Roody Am in touch with Dennis (Sec of the Polar-Bears Assoc) about my fathers Regts involvement with the 49th (WR) as their sole Medium Arty under command for "Veritable" If you go to the Ass Web Site and post a message he will get back to you with all info. Home Rob D
