Remembering Today

On the morning of 10 May 1945, 102 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, under command 9 AGRA, cross the German border and are deployed in THEBING, KRECHTING, HOPPERMAN'S HOF & RAESFELD.

Their sole operational duty was to set up a Train Guards Transit Camp at BOCHOLT and to provide guards on trains running between BOCHOLT and OSNABRUCK. Men from 336 Battery provided the first guards on 11 May. On the 13th May, 2 of their number were dead and another injured, when the train they were travelling on crashed into an oncoming train. Sergeant A.L. Doughty and Gunner J.G. Ross were the men to die, a few short days after the cessation of hostilities in North West Europe.

They were buried at REICHSWALD FOREST WAR CEMETERY and their deaths recorded a day later than reported in the war diary.
