    Grandfather in 1943 and 1940.

45 Recce Hockey team? Grandfather in bush hat, I believe the gentleman on his left is Jimmy White MC, the man in front of White is Cyril Baldock, and the tall gentleman standing next to White is Peter Taylor again.

Grandfather as Major in 1944, and post-war in Nigeria with wife, 1947 I think.

I've put up a couple more pictures, but they're more of less general interest so I just put them in my profile gallery (I hope).

Since you guys are kind enough to be interested I'll give some background- my grandfather often talked about the trek in Sikkim with his friends, and once when I was staying with him in my teens I found the copied pages from the guide book that they had used, which I thought were interesting and I decided that one day I would like to do the same trek. Life/money hasn't allowed this to happen yet, but someday it will.

Anyway, after my grandfather died I wrote to his friend Peter Taylor, whose obituary recently appeared on this site, and asked him about the trek, and he described it in some detail. I then wrote to a dozen or so people out of the UK phone book with the names 'Adams' or 'Wynter' who seemed likely to have a connection with Ron Adams or Dudley Wynter, the other two trekkers (and the driving force behind the expedition apparently, Adams was the regimental sports officer and was determined to do something active, my grandfather said that he was initially tempted to stay in the city and enjoy nightlife!).

I got one letter back, from Wynter's daughter, who had been given it by Wynter's wife, who is alive and well (92)and living in Sussex, but doesn't use email. These kind ladies went through his photo album looking for anything that might look like the himalayas, and then sent me these pictures. I live in Canada but will definitely try and drop round for tea to thank them next time I am in the UK.

When I finally get round to taking the trip myself I'll post some photos of my own :)
