Just seen this and as a result of the info given I have now updated my site by removing the reference to a move to the UK in 1944. If anyone can give me any further info on this Regiment to fill in the gaps on my site I would be grateful. Derek
Hello Gary, Thanks for your input, once again just my luck that there is no entry in your uncles diary. When was the diary started? If it is not too much trouble I am interested in all dates of 142 Bty. Tom.
Hi Tom, this is going to take me sometime to get the info together! But the diary begins on the 1/11/42 when they board the troopship 'Ormonde' They arrive at Algiers on the 12/11/42 and stay docked for a few days, before moving down the coast to Bougie, transfering from the Ormonde to the Princess Beatrix, dated the 16/11/42. On the 17/11/42 they move to Philipeville and encounter their first action on the 20/11/42 confronting two x Ju88's, but no hits. On the 14/12/42 they move from Philipville and arrive at Souk Ahras?(not sure about the spelling, dodgy writing!) 24/12/42 They move across the Tunisian border and arrive at Souk El Arbar at 1PM and taken to protect the aerodrome which has Beaufighters, Spitfires and Hurricanes. Tom, I hope this is ok for you for now, I'll continue to get the information together and hope that this is the sort of thing you would like, if there's anything more and the info so far is ok, please let me know. 'Til the next installment then, regards Gary
I post this query here as is refers to Gunner ex 142LAA: 2 Abbreviations: Posted to 75th B/L Regt.RA What does B/L stand for. ..to No8 CCS the transferred to 72 Gen. Hospital then to 100 Gen Hospital the to No.3 Camp and then to No.1 GRTD What does GRTD stand for. Tomed1
The abbreviation 75th B/L Regt. RA has been rechecked, and should be 75th S/L Regt (Search Light). GRTD stands for General Reserve Training Depot supplied by Fire Power museum. Tom.
